Hi people,

I will be away for a long time, 2 years or less, I heard that some IO would question you at PoE for "close ties in the US"...

How do I prove that???

My husband and I dont own a house in the US.. Im still a student and I dont have earnings of my own...

So how do i file tax returns if im not working???

Does anybody know how to keep close ties in the US???

Thanks

Well, apply for a Re-Entry Permit. That should show intent to return. Close ties can be in the form of property, bank accounts, driver's licence, immediate family, etc. Without a Re-Entry Permit, coming back after an absence of 2 years is practically impossible.

And as to filing a tax return, when not working. So? While you do not need to file if your income is very low, nothing is stopping you from filing. It would be much easier to file a 1040 with little income (interest, etc) than having to explain that you weren't required to file.
