My name is Ekrem and i am really glad i found this forum, looks great here and seems that i will learn a lot regarding the asylum right. I am planing to move soon to the states ( i got B1/B1 visa ) and as soon as i get there to request political asylum, i got plenty of papers but want to go through a Lawyer. The question is:

- Where do i begin, what state, what city, i do not have relatives in the States?
- Will i have any problem because i am intending to come the legal way, fly from Europe to the States?
- Will i get housing somewhere, supported from the state?
- etc etc. :)

Any help much appreciated.

Best!

Housing? Support? You have money to get a visa but you dont have money to support yourself?

ONLY REFUGEES GET SUPPORT FROM THE GOVERNMENT...AS I CAN SEE YOU ARE FAAAAAAAAR FROM THAT, YOU GOT A VISA!!!

Hi, ekrem! First of all don't take with you all those papers which prove your asylum. When you will found place to stay, then ask somebody from your contry to send them to you. The reason is: officers in the airport can check your lagguage and if they will find them, it will mean that your reason of travel is different form b1/b2 and they might send you back. Maybe they will not check your bag, but I wouldn't risk. Regarding your questions:
1. As I heard the best office for approvals is SF, California. But city itself is quite expensive. NY and LA are very busy with process. Read more posts here and chose.
2. Nobody will provide you with housing etc. be ready to spend a lot on life+lawyers. Still you can try to google some organizations. If you didnt get your asylum fast and your case is still pending, In 150 days after you filled you case, you will have the possibility to apply for EAD card, so you can start to work. The process time for this card is about 2 months.
My advise to you: be ready that your case can take long time, as you see from people experience on this forum. Try to apply as soon as you can in case you will have to wait for EAD card.
Good luck!

Gandrug, visa coast $ 180.00 or smth like that, but to live here is much much more expensive, specially if the case is taking long time. I think the question was reasonable. All offices are very busy and late, so waiting for half a year for EAD card will coast much more then visa to the USA. You was really lucky to got your approval in 5 months, but even my example shows that in the same anaheim office I am waiting already more then 10 months just to have interview.
My point is: ekrem and other people who is going to apply must know what can happen and be ready.

Thank YOU so much m8! One more question: what will cost me the Lawyer?

Thanks!

The average price is $5000.00. But you can find cheaper I guess. Some people do it without lawyer, read more on this forum and you will understand what is better for you. Also there is some churches which can give you a lawyer for free or with low coast, if you have relegeous asylum.

Thanks!

A reasonable fee for attorney is between $1500 to $5000!
You may face some strange numbers, like 8000 or more which is all fraudulent!
In Asylum cases the only thing that your lawyer can do for you is filling the forms and providing materials and articles to proof your case! During the interview they can't talk on be half of you, they just sit there to make sure the officer is not tricking!!
As my brother asylum2012 mentioned! Life cost is so high! Make yourself ready for a big challenge!
Nowadays most of the offices are so slow! We're waiting for our interviews for 10 , 8, 6 months! Mine is 4 months!
Wish you luck buddy!

You can check www.aila.org for some recommendations.

Hi Ekrem,

In Livonia area, you can contact the Freedom House Detroit, they have a program for asylum seeking applicants for housing/food and legal aid. Their phone is: (313) 964-4320. Good luck!

I'm so sorry but you look like a scam!

Trying to get things for free! Food! Housing! Too worried trying to get an EAD as soon as you get here!

If you get here and if you can't get an EAD, you can WASH DISHES, CLEAN HOUSES and make some extra cash until you get your EAD. Your hands won't fall off! Trust me!!!

Hi Ekrem,

Let me appologise on behalf of Gandrud. But to tell you the truth, you are being so over cautious to the extent that its hard to belive that you are really seeking asylum. It looks so well meticulously planned. I am just saying... anyway, I live in Michigan, so if you ever want any help when you finally get here, just text me, I will be willing to help if and when I can.

Waz!

Waz,

Why would i do that my friend? Why you think i would cheat? I am 42 years old, i have a family ( they don't have any visa to entry the States ). I am still living in my country but far away from my home and my wife and two children, the reason for that is definitely political, but i will put it in the application form. And yes, if i come to Michigan i will PM you as i will really need your help. The main reason why i am still asking is my financial situation, i do not want to live like a parasite in someones house, i do want to find a job, maybe black for the begin ( i am seeking a job online ) and then will head to US.

Thanks everybody for understanding.

Hi Ekrem,

I would suggest you to look for a job after you arrive in the U.S., because even for me, being here for so many years and searching for jobs online - it never worked. I always had to have some connections who would refer me and help me find a job, even if it is a blue collar job. That's how it works everywhere I guess. That's why it is great to have connections who would help you, especially when you first arrive.
