Healthcare for new immigrants

It is said that young healthy people are going to be paying for older, sicker people. To some that sounds horribly unfair. To me, that sounds like the way a society is supposed to behave.

This is how medical insurance works anywhere... Same thing here
People also need to remember that those old, sick people are the ones who raised the young healthy ones, paid for their education etc...

Yup, seems obvious to me - but really you will be amazed. In fact SusieQQQ, I hope I get to see you in action. I should line you up at a party and invite loads of republican friends. I'm sure there would be no need for fireworks at that party!

He refused to check if there is any application, he said I must wait 3 weeks, than I can re apply if I dont receive it yet.
I even filled forms for me and my family members but he just refused to even look at it...

The person you saw was probably having a crappy day and kind of took it out on you. I would have gone back the next day with an application in hand and try to see someone else, or try to find another SSA office.

Mom, simon....
Lots of my community here in usa, ask for social aid, they get baby food all of this kind of stuff.... but than I heard it might get you in trouble when you apply for your citizen ship is it so?

It's very easy to get into trouble especially when an immigrant is surrounded by people from the same community from back at home. They will tell you, don't worry, we do this all the time, it's not a problem. My rule of thumb in general is if you can afford to get by, stay as far away from social welfare as you possibly can. This is not to say there are no social aids that a LPR is entitled to and can apply for, you just need to be very careful so you don't end up receiving something appears so seemingly easy to obtain but can cost you in the long run.

Here's a link that can provide you with information on what you can or should not apply for as a LPR:

http://www.nilc.org/document.html?id=164

Be sure to read the document all the way to the end. It talks about what constitutes a public charge for anyone trying to apply for a GC, it also talks about after becoming a LPR. Be aware though that if you receive social benefit, you will need to list them when the time comes to apply for citizenship, so be sure to keep an accurate record of everything.

The beauty of it is I know all the conservative arguments backwards ...and how to argue them :D
Of course - and this goes for both sides - people often believe in the rightness or wrongness of these things emotionally/intuitively and are not necessarily swayed by logical argument.

I know exactly what you mean. I think you are just like me - happy to debate and argue a point - even to the point where others would have walked away. So you are like me, but with a much better education!!! I can't wait! :D

Be sure to invite me too, although I will basically be in the background sipping my margarita with no plans whatsoever to get involved with the crazy talks :D

LOLOL - aww come on Mom - I'm sure we could interest you in a good argument!

Mom, I just came back from the ssn office, they told me the same thing again, if I dont recieve them this week than I can reapply monday....

Gosh! I have no idea what's going on down there in Kansas. Not quite sure what you told them when you visited again, if I was in your shoes though I would have simply shown them an application form and told them I wish to apply for a SSN, I believe once they start keying in the information, the system will show if an application has already been submitted on my behalf or not.

Anyway, the week is almost over, so hang in there and let's see what happens.
