The time, the money you will spend to apply, alltogether, is not worth it. Just Fly to Munich and get some cheap ticket to whatever city in Italy you need.

I got italian (schengen) visas from the miami consulate a few times with no problem whatsoever...takes less than a week to get it if fedex is used.

The german consulate told me if you enter germany with rtd and no viza can not go out of germany....it can be done easy since there are no borders but if the italian police stops you would be problems....

In FEB 2004, I entered Germany without a VISA and went to Amsterdam, Switzerland, Italy all without any problems. I took a Express Train from Frankfurt to Zurich, Switzerland and the swiss cops came on board the train. Mind you, Switzerland is not part of any schengen but the cop looked at my passport and asked how many days I was here for and thats it.

From Switzerland to Italy in a train, Italian Cops also came board. Very rude. But took my passport and came back in 5 minutes with no problem.

I flew out from Milan to JFK and the officer didn't say why I didn't have a visa.

That was before the stupid london bombings..so depending on your nationality, obtain a visa if you think somoene will profile you.

i have travelled to all of europe three times.and it's not hard to get italian shegan visa, if you fulfill all their requirments listed on their website.the only thing they really intersted in,you are serious about your trip, and have real air tickets.and it's easy to get visa from italian consulate compare to other schegan countries.FYI,i got visas from san francisco consulate.

Were you using RTD or Passport?

Thanks for the replies guys. How much does it cost to get a VISA? Is it expensive? I'm planning to meet my family there next year and trying to prepare everything in advance.
