Dear Sir,

I would like to get some advice please. I am currently working at a US university and am on a H-1B approved visa status. I was previously married to a US citizen and had the initial 2yr Permanent resident card and A# issued. We then got divorced and I returned the PR card. I am now married to another US citizen and am applying through the I485 form for adjustment of status to perm resident again. My question is if I should be using my old A# when filling in the forms or not? Should I just use my present I-94# on any forms and leave the A# blank until I am issued a new one?
Thanks in advance for any help on this matter.
Sincerely,

Orso

old A#

Hi,

I returned the old card by sending it back to the local us consulate with a letter explaining the situation. i did not know about the form I-407 at that time unfortunately.
do you think that will cause issues?

Well, I figure now that they've granted your H1B, that your old green card must have been properly cancelled.

Use the same old A# on the new forms. If they think you should get a new A#, they'll assign a new one which you will see on the I-485 receipt and EAD.

Orso,

Use your old A# which will ensure that USCIS can find your old/previous application and they only have a single file for you. Avoid multiple files which have a potential to cause many problems for you, confusion and wrong/old file send to the local DO. You needed to have completed the I-407 to USCIS. I don't see if complicating your case because it will also prove that you didn't marry for immigration fraud, because after your marriage failed, you return home and settle back into your life. You will need to clear the same or even higher bar this time around, USCIS is always trying to ensure no fraud is being committed. Best wishes to your case. Once again, if you know the old A#, use it and minimize confusion. If there's one thing you should know, USCIS is a terrible bureaucracy and can ruin your life.

old A#

Thanks for the replies!
I have a photocopy of my old card and so have the old A#. which i will enter into the forms.
I am just trying to be careful and go through all the correct steps. Any other advice is gladly received.
Cheers,
