I went to the Infopass to inquire about my N400 application. It has been pending for more than 7 months. The immigration officer said, they are waiting for the background check from several agencies. Does somebody know who they send the background check to. Are these all government agencies or they also send the background check to past employers, and to the landlords where you lived. Please shed some light.

I asked her how long it takes for the background check to clear, she said it is difficult to tell.

Thanks.

There are several agencies who provide the background check results to USCIS. FBI, CIA, Interpol, etc are some examples.

All I've ever heard was three requests to the FBI:
- finger prints
- IBIS
- Namecheck.

Got any pointers to source material covering those other agencies?

It's only a government database they check Bubble, so no need for you to worry about an old landlord or employer that had personal file on you (unless of course they reported you to police for a crime you were subsequently charged for).
