H4 Wife, Social Security No. & Tax Return

Hello All,
My wife doesn\'t have a social security no. cause they would not issue her one, told me that she has to have a work permit. I am filing my taxes as Married and on the form they require me to specify her SSN#. What should I do now??

Get a TIN

You need to apply for a TIN(Tax Identification Number) for your wife because she does not qualify for a SSN. This can be used anywhere that the SSN is needed for tax purposes. I did it this year and it worked.

ITIN...

See the local IRS directory and apply with completed w-7
See the IRS website for your nearest IRS office which is authorized to issue ITIN.
You can attach a remark to your IT return : ITIN applied and pending, meanwhile.
