H4 to H1 without I-94

I came to US on H4 visa. After coming to US, I applied for change of status (H4 to H1). My H1 got approved last month and got my I797 without I-94. In I-797(B) under Consulate/POE it was typed as Chennai/India. My questions are

1. Can i go to Mexico/Canada for stamping other than Chennai/India

2. If not if i go to Chennai consulate and if by chance my H1 visa is rejected, is my H4 is still valid?

Appreciate if some one can guide me on this issue.

2. If not if i go to Chennai consulate and if by chance my H1 visa is rejected, is my H4 is still valid? If H1 is rejected on the basis of your credential fradulance (providing false information, hiding / not disclosing information etc) reason your H4 will get cancelled and you may barred to enter into US.
Appreciate if some one can guide me on this issue.
