H4 TO H1 - Is Out of Statusf for one day?

My wife is on H4 Visa. Her current H4 visa stamp and I-94 is expiring on 29-Sep-2005. She is applying for H1B on 2006 FY H1B quota and that will be valid from 1-Oct-2005. Will she be out of status for one day on 30-Sep-2005?
I have submitted application for H1B Renewal as my H1B is expiring on 29-Sep-2005. Do I also need to apply for my wife's H4 extension for one day?
