H4-H1B approved,but H1B status not Updated

I was on H4 and filed my H1B through a Consultant in Virginia and got my H1B approval through VSC starting Oct 2006. For some reason , my status is still shown as H4 at USCIS database and i cannot get SSN unless the status is updated.Its been 2 months since i applied for SSN and social security office is waiting for status confirmation from USCIS.

Since i currently reside in San jose , checked with local CIS office and was told that they dont have permissions to change the status.

Very much appreciated if some one can suggest me, whats the best way to proceed to get status updated.

Talk to your attorney who has done your h1 transfer. They can check and update the system.
