H4--> H1: SSN

Hi There:

I changed my status from H4 to H1 on Feb 11, 2004(approval date). On Feb 18, 2004 I went to SSN office and tried to apply for SSN number, they said that their systems still show me as an H4.

Does anybody know how much time it takes to get updated in the USCIS systems. I even called the USCIS customer support, they just asked to me wait and check back later.

Any information shared will be appreciated.

You have an approval notice but the USCIS system has you not approved?
Call the 1800 number and initiate a case referral, Tell them Because of the fact that you are not getting the SSN you are unable to start working and this might violate INS laws.
I would even write a letter to USCIS (to the address in the approval letter)

I had recently got my H1 approval from H4 and i wanted to know what should be done to get my SSN.

My friend had a similar issue H4--> H1

My friend had a similar issue H4--> H1.

She was told by SSN office that since she came on H4 visa and now it is change of status, she needs to go out of country and get H1 stamp on passport and enter as H1 status. Only then they can issue a SSN.
