Hi LucyMO

I wanted to thank you once again for answering all my queries while applying for my COS from H4 to F1. I got an email from USCIS saying my application has been approved and that a letter is in the mail. I wanted to ask you, will this mail itself have my new I-94 or will that come separately and is based on the case status dates on the USCIS website? My application was received by the california service center on May 11, 2005. Currently they are processing applications received around April 16.

Based on this approval email can i start working on campus or do i have to wait for the new I-94?

Thanks in advance!

p.s: Anyone else who has the answer to this question I would appreciate if you could send a reply!!

You got the good news of F1 approval, but approval is COS or new one will be known once you receive the F1 approval notice.

If the approval notice come with I 94 portion at the bottom , then you can join school and you are legally F1, if no I 94 come with it, then you have to go out US and stamp F1 and get new I 94 to be F1 status.

Received I-94

thanks! i received the I-94 yesterday which states approved for duration of status. what does that mean??

that means that as long as you maintain your F-1 status (and some of the conditions are that you have a valid I-20, keep going to school full time, and do not work without autorization), you can stay in this country indefinitely. There is no date that you need to leave by.
