With no pay check can take only training, but no work. Working for any commercial company even volunteer kind is illegal.
If you wan to do volunteer job , go to Senior Citizen Assisted Home. Your service will be really appreciated there.

Idea is if you get the job as volunteer for production job, you are considered
to be taking away the job from US citizen. That is why it's not allowed to do free
servive for production work without work authorization.
