Hi

I m getting married in March. I have few questions.

Marriage registration
------------------------------
1) How long does it take to get a marriage registration cert.(after tradional hindu marriage)? I heard it takes 2-3 days. Is there a way to get it in a day ?

Passport
------------

2) Is it necessary to get spouse' s last name changed in her existing passport ?

3)Also, Is it necessary to add my name as her spouse for the purposes of H4 stamping ? And add her as my spouse in my passport . Or is it just a "good to have" thing ? [For the purposes of H4 stamping]

4) How long does this changes in passport take? Any way to expedite the process ?

5 )I already have my current H1 stamped. When we take appointment for personal appearnce at delhi consulate for my wife, Can I also accompnay her inside the consulate ?

6) How long is it taking now a days to get H4 stamped @ delhi ? Any ideas ?

7) what questions can they ask in the interview ?

------- you can generally get in 2-3 days and if you want the same day get in touch with lawyer out side the court he will take his fees and Chai Pani to get in same day.
Passport
------------

----- it is not necessary but it is better to change it, fill up the Miscellaneous service application form it is available with passport office, with passport agents and also on India embassy or any Indian consulate site, fill up the form attach the copy of Marriage certificate and name change affidavit, pay the fees and one can get the copy with married name also in 1-2 days, catch the passport agent and give Chai Pani

3)Also, Is it necessary to add my name as her spouse for the purposes of H4 stamping ?
---- Better get it done, Mumbai consulate needs it Delhi may also need it

----- Catch the good agent who has office near to Passport office or sits near to passport office he will guide you

----- Only she will be allowed in side US consulate as you have nothing to do inside

----- depends on many factors others may post who have recent exp

----- depends on officer others may post what was asked

Do you know if RPO does this or not? Last I checked with RPO in 03, they said it will be a application for a new p/p.

I believe there a bunch of posts on this item.

Spouse went in 06/03. Pretty smooth. A pal's spouse had a problem, cause primary did not have (and did not require) a H1 stamp on the p/p. But this was resolved with the appropriate direction from the attorney next day.

I am in the same situation as the gentleman (joyous123) who asked the question.

Can you tell me what will be the process of name/passport change? One of my friends wife's visa was rejected because she did not have the husbands name and her name was also not changed.

Also, I have another question since I will be taking an appointment online before my marriage. Suppose, I have to change my wife's name, then when I apply for the online interview, I have to send the passport copies of my wife and myself with other documents. Now, this would be the name of my wife before marriage, so when I actually go for the interview(my H1 visa is also to be stamped again), if her passport has the name changed, will that be a problem? How can I work around this?

I will be applying in Mumbai consulate.
