H4 and Drivers License

My wife has an approved I-797 valid till 2007. However, the H4 visa stamp in her passport expired in 2004.

While applying for her Drivers License in Missouri, we produced her passport as well the I-797. A few days later we received a letter from DMV saying "We got a response from immigration stating that your immigration documents are expired."

Immigration should have the latest information and since she has I-797 valid till 2007, i am not able to determine where the problem could be.

Can anyone advise what we are supposed to do here ?

probably missouri dmv would have sent a copy of your wife's expired visa stamp.

did the h4 extension approval notice has i-94 attached to it (see bottom right of the notice). if not then her extension of status may not be approved in which case she need to go out and reenter again.

Which of I-797A or I-797B did she got ? If it was I797B, you need to talk to very good lawyer.

If you are in metro area like St.Louis, we faced similar problem.
We got it solved through intereior DMV springfield last month. In Springfield DMV do not know how to read a immigration paper, simply issue permit and then license..
