Hello,

How are you doing?

I am currently on H4 visa in USA. Just arrived here last month after marriage.

I’ve 15 years of education from India (Bachelor of Commerce from Mumbai University, year 2002 pass-out). And have 3 years of IT work-experience so far from India. Here, I am not working.

My passing out years are as follows:-

S.S.C(10th grade): March-1995
H.S.C(12th grade): March-1997
Bachelor of Commerce (The Bachelors degree from University of Mumbai, India which is the 15th year of education) : May-2002

From June 2002 to April 2005, I was working in a Computer/IT firm as a Programmer in Mumbai, India

I missed 2 years of education in between from bJune-1999 to May-2001 because of family problems and started last year of graduation in May-2001 completing it in May-2002. For those 2 years I was working in an Accounts(non-IT) firm for a living.

I believe people having 15 years of education & minimum of 3 years of IT work experience in India are eligible for applying for H1 visa.

My question is:

1)
Am I eligible for H1 visa here considering my 15 years of education and 3 years of work-experience in IT now? My concern is would the 2 year gap in between of graduation will have a problem in my education evaluation or applying for H1 visa?

2)
Would my 2 year experience in Accounts firm before my graduation can be counted in my education evaluation in any way bringing me at par for 16 years of education?

3)
Or should I leave it thinking it would not be considered in any way for education evaluation for H1 visa.

Your reply would be greatly appreciated.

Please let me know if you require any more information or details from my side.

P.S: I can find a H1 sponsorer here who can apply for my H1.

Regards,
Seema Parikh

Look for a sponser who can give you a Job offer. What kind of training /certificate do you have in the IT field. Just BCom with exp ( with no computer education) may not qulaify to get H1 in IT field. Work on it.

H1B Visa & Education Evaluation Reply to Thread

I have done NIIT Course from Mumbai & have IT Experience from Mumbai.
Finding a H1 sponsorer is not the concern.

My concerns are
1)the gap of 2 years in B.Com and
2) would the Accounts experience be counted in education/credentials evaluation.

No, for IT related job.

Hi there- I am a foreign educational evaluator. To answer your question and to reiiterate on the response before this- for an IT positon, anything not in that discipline cannot be used for the evaluation.

On its own, your BCom in India is equivalent to 3 years of undergraduate study in the U.S. Generally an equivalency in the IT field can be achieved by combining the education with 3 yrs of work in IT, based on the 3 for 1 rule established by the CIS. Feel free to drop me a line if you have more questions.
