H1b transfer question

Hi,

I just applied for H1B transfer from one company to another last month. I also simultaneously applied for my wife's H4. How long does the approval usually take from the time I submitted the application? Also, I am planning a trip to Chennai this August (assuming that I receive the approval notice before then). Will I require to attend an interview at the consulate for an H1B transfer? Or is the drop box sufficient? If someone could let me know the answer soon that would be great because I would like to book a date for the visa interview if it is required.

---- if you are going to get H1B stamp from consulate then you have to attend Interview ( these days everyone who gets US visa is fingerprinted in US consulate) if your Visa from Past company is still Valid and stamped in your passport you dont need new Visa stamp you can enter with previus employer name on Visa stamp at POE you MUST show Visa stamp AND new H1 approval notice so that at POE you get I-94 till your H1 transfer approval notice, check your I-94 date at POE if the date is not correct point out to officer or ask for supervisor
