H1b to H4, Please advice

Hi friends,

I am currently on J2 and very soon my employer (university) will file H1B (because my spouse is going to change in H1B by university). I am planning is to quit job later (8-10 month later) and I want to switch to H4. I never heard any problem associated with H1 to H4 transfer. I was wondering if there can be any difficulty to transfer from H1 to H4.
Is H1b to H4 transfer require “COS”, if yes how long it take to get approve.

Could you please tell about COS (change of status) form I-539?, how long it take to get approved, if the case like H1b (exempt) to H4 (exempt) transfer is quit easy? Or How many months before should start the COS processing before expiration or termination of current VISA.
