Hi,
I have got my H1B visa papers in march 2001 and it is valid till sep'2003.I didn't appear before the consulate.I came to US this April on L1 visa for one year. Can I transfer my visa from L1-H1?If not what should I do now?Is there any limit to appear for stamping before consulate after receiving visa papers? Can I have both L1 and H1 visas at a time?

Any kind of help is appreciated..

To use the approval, you have to go to a consulate and get a h1 visa stamp in the passport. The time limit for stamping at the consulate is the H1 expiry date.
You can also get a new L1 to H1 transfer. Your h1 will be valid from date of approval. In order to travel in and out of US you need a h1 visa stamp in the passport.
U cannot have both L1 and H1 at the same time...

Hi Jaxen,
Thnaks for the info...Forgot to mention one thing here..H1 is from one company and L1 is from another company..Do I need to attend the consulate in India or can attend anywhere? What do you mean by" new L1 to H1 transfer"?

Your help is appreciated..

Better to get the stamping from home country, unless you have a US degree in which case Canada US consulate is a better choice.

You can do a New, fresh L1 to H1 transfer, which does not require stamping to start on H1. After getting the status you need the stamp to travel in and out of US.
