H1B Renewal

I do not as yet have a H1 stamp on my passport. I was wondering if i want to renew my H1B, do I need to leave US or can it be renewed right here?

To extend your h1, within US , you no need to go outside ,provided you should get your I 94 portion at the bottom of your H1 approval notice.
 
well i receveied form i797 with a new i94 attached to it...so this means when my h1b expires I can renew it for another 3 years without leaving US??

r u sure cuz..i had heard that atleast pakistan citizens had to go back to country of origin for h1b renewal...
 
In general, you can renew H1(no stamping) in the US and keep staying in the US.
However, when you go out and come back to the US, you need
passport stamp which you should get in yoour home country.
I do not know if there is any special rule for Pakistani.

For H1, the procedure is same, you are here with valid visa issued by US consulate from Pakistan. And have your valid I 94 too. Once the validity expires, you are renewing your H1 and I 94. So you can keep on renewing (including I 94) and stay even 20 yeras (if you are eligible)by not going to pakistan.

Once you go out of USA, you have to get your visa stamped before entering USA.
