H1B - OPT, please help!!

I graduated this yr and my h1b got approved before i applied for my opt. i received opt in june. now i am on h1b since the effective date is oct 1, 2006 but my opt is still active until june 2007.
The company i work for is not doing very well and i don't knw wht will happen in the future. I am really confused and have lots of questions - please help :(

1. if i leave the company (or get laid off), does the 60-day h1 rule apply to me (which means i have to find another employer to get h1 approved in 60 days or leave the country) or will i be safe since my opt is still active until june 2007

please reply to my question ASAP so i can think about wht to do next :confused: thanks a lot
 
There is no 60 days rule. If you got laid-off, you need to find the next sponsor as soon as possible, but there is not specific grace period.

If yes, then, when i find a new employer - what is the process - will it be a H1 Transfer process or will it be a NEW h1 process - if it is a new H1 process will i then have to again wait until the effective date for H1 - i.e OCT 2007???? since my OPT expires in June 2007??? :(

Once you got H1 status, you can not go back to OPT or F1 status unless you filed certain petition. If you lost job during H1 status, status violation starts upon the loss of job, so that you have to find the next job as soon as possible.
 
Thanks to everyone for posting their responses. My question is - how much time do i have after leaving my job from Company A (under h1) to get a new job (in this case will it be a new h1 or h1b transfer) >> :confused: :confused:
 
Can someone plz reply to my question -> once i leave my current job (on H1B), how much time do i get to find a new one on H1B.
I am aware that once I leave my job or get laid off, i would be out of status until i get a new job - but isn't there some grace period??? :confused: :confused: coz i don't know how long it will take for me to find a new job.

If it takes me 30 - 40 days to get a new job from the time I leave my original job, is that a problem??? Please reply ASAP as I am really tensed about this situation which is going to arive soon. :(
