H1b extension pending ,can I change the employer

Guys,
My H1b extension is pending and I have found a new employer can the new employer file for H1b ?
just you know my I-94 and H1b expired in Dec'2002.
Please help !!!!!!.
If anybody has gone through this type of situation ?..

Ask your present employer for proof of extension filing. If you can land on the copy of the INS receipt for H1 extension that is splendid. Otherwise you can give approximate dates when the H1 extension apps were filed to the new employer.
You can initiate a transfer when a transfer or extension is pending as far as H1 visa is considered
