H1B extension - how long can I get???

Hi,

My H1 8th year extension expires in December 2006.

I would like to change jobs. If I apply for extension with other company using current companies LC, how long I can get the extension.
- Is it only until this December 2006 (or) Is it one year from now?

Also, since mine is expiring in December, if I apply for extension before 6 months (around June time frame), can I get 1.5 years of extension?

Is there any circumstances, where I can get more than 1 year of extension on H1, like applying before few months of expiration, etc (I already used up my recapture of absense from US)?

If you apply early , you will get extn of 1 year from Dec 2006 only.
You can get extn more than one year, if you are recapturing your absense in US.

Thanks for the response.

So, even if I apply in July or August, I can get extension only from December onwards. Is my understanding correct?

I don't have any absense left, as I used it while applying for 7th year ext. Are there any other alternatives.
