H1B and university grant

I'm on H1B visa. Also, I'm finishing my PhD at a US university. Can my university/dept. pay for one semester of tuition thru a grant? This would be the final semester I need to register in order to defend my dissertation. If H1B is a problem for such a grant, can I apply for a concurrent H1B for one semester, working for my advisor as an RA? Thanks a lot!

concurrent H1B might be a solution.
However employer can choose to spend any grant money in whatever way they want. It all depends on What is the H1B for?

Hi Jaxen,
Thanks for your reply. Could you please explain what you mean when you say:

"However employer can choose to spend any grant money in whatever way they want. It all depends on What is the H1B for?"

Can the university pay for my tuition through a grant without doing a second or concurrent H1B? The university does not care. But I should be careful as I would get two W2s from two different sources at the end of the year.

Thanks a lot once again.
