H1 transfer

If h1 is transferred, does it automatically revoke the previous H1? In a hypothetical situation, after changing to another employer by x'fer, if an employee wants to go back to previous employer, can he use the same old h1 or he needs to tranfer again?

I know this might have been discussed before, but I could not find it.

is it legally required for an employer to revoke/cancel H1 by writing to USCIS if an employee is seperated from the service(either terminated or resigned)?
if yes, what are the consequences in case they dont so..

----- it is not required but many employers do it. if one is terminated or resigned he/she is not on H1 status of that particular employer.
