H1 transfer applied without I-797. Please advise

friends and gurus,
I'm currently in H1B status for an IT company. I recently got an offer from a public university, but my employer refused to give me my I-797 for H1 transfer.
I liked this University job a lot, so I applied for a H1B transfer. The university office applied for me, but without the I-797. I got a petition receipt, dated June 29 this year, and I started working for the university.
Now I'm getting tense- what if my transfer is denied?
Has anyone applied for a transfer without the old I-797? What will happen with my application?

did the university applied with Copy of H1 approval or valid I-94(front and back) + latest 2-3 pay stubs copy?
 
The university appplied with my latest paystubs and receipt# for H1 application of my former company and NOT H1 approval notice.
I dont have my H1 approval notice or I-94 becasue my old employer did not give them to me.

I see a Problem if no I-94 copy was attached.
