H1 Status after leaving job

My friend worked in US for over a year and then went to india to pursue further studies. He now wants to go to Pakistan briefly on a student exchange program. I have the following questions on the status

1. Is there original H1 still valid if the company never files for withdrawal? I know the original company did not do that. If not, then whould he have to apply & start the process all over again?
2. Is the exchange program in Pak in any way impact him if he tries to come back to US?

Would appreciate any answers or previous experiences on this.

I forgot where I read it, but there is some article saying if someone living outside the US who had H1 within last 180days, he/she can get H1 transfer.

Post the exact date of H1 validity and his date of presence in US to give specific solutions for him.
