H1 Stamping for the first time

Hi!
I came to US on F1 and a company sponsored my H1 early Feb this year and until then I was on OPT. I still have my old F1 stamping on my passport which is expired in May2002. But I do have the new I-94 when I changed my status to H1 and that is valid till 3 years from now.
Since I want to get my H1 stamped for the first time, can I get get it done while I am here in US or should I visit my home country(India) to get it stamped. I know that subsequent H1 stampings can be done here in US but am not sure if it can be done for the first time here.
Anybody please advice on what supporting documents I need and which office to contact if it can be done.

---NO, you cannot revalidate in US from DOS
or should I visit my home country(India) to get it stamped.
--- Get it stamped from India when you visit or try Canada, Ottawa or Toronto read the other posts many have got H1 stamped from Toronto and Ottawa (remember if denied in Canada you cant enter US you have to go straight from Canada to India)
