H1 Stamping at St Louis

Hi All,

I have valid visa till Apr 04, 2004 of my previous employer and I have my H1 approval with my new employer till Jun 10, 2005. The ex-employer did not cancel my visa. My lawyer says that I do not need to stamp if I don't leave the country and I need to get stamping in India if I leave this country. This is true practically. Technically I don't need to stamp at chennai if I enter US before Apr 2004 from India.

My queation is Can I send my passport for stamping to St Louis as I do not like to get stamped at Chennai. Has anyone applied for stamping under the similar situation? Please advise me.
 
Generally based on the change of employer St.louis used to give the stamp. But the revalidation site states that even an employer change does not require a new stamp, unless the current visa stamp is still valid for more than 6 months...
