H1 renewal

Hi

My H-1 on the passport and on the petition aswell as on 797 says that it expires in Jan 2003.I've completed abt 5 yrs in the country and my GC from NJ is still in the labor(filed Nov 2001). Since I still have about 1+ years in the 6-year life of H1 Visa, I'm wondering how do I apply for renewal of my H-1 from the current employer. He says that we can apply even before 2 weeks of the expiry date and not to worry.

I appreciate if someone could tell me the process of H1 renewal as I want to apply for it ASAP.

can apply 2 weeks before expiry

Unless you have some travel plans during 4-6 months period from expiry, you can apply for extension 2 weeks before expiry.
