H1 Renewal and Passport Expiration

My H1 expires in Jan 2004. I will be filing for a renewal sometime this month (Sep 2003). My current passport is valid until May 2004. I will be renewing my passport sometime this month as well.

Question: Will the fact that my passport is going to expire in May 2004 affect my ability to get my H1 renewal done or the duration for which the renewal is granted? Any feedback on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

I don’t think expiry of PP has to do anything with H1 transfer but I will apply immediately new Passport or extended by nearest Indian consulate or embassy and then file for H1 transfer. It is better to extend the PP or get new PP copy, these days one can expect RFE for any document.
