H1 extn. - I94 validity

My H1(1st 3 yrs) and I94 expires on 09/30/03.
I have applied for H1 extn (receipt dt 08/19/03).

My wife is on H4 - same validity and renewal dates.

What would my status be after 09/30 ? Is there any safety measure that I can take.

I also have a pending 485 appl and an approved EAD.

Pl. advise what would be the best step for me.
