h1 extension problem.

My friend filed h1-b extension last December. But It looks like his company will out of business very soon. My friend told me he can get a job in a university. But it will take time to process the job. He afraid the university doesn¡¯t have enough time to process the new h1-b since his former company will withdraw his h1 extension.
My friend¡¯s wife has validated h1 visa. My friend is considered to change to h4, then the university can based the h4 to apply new h1b, is this a reasonable approach? I want to know before he actually get the h4 visa, can she apply for the new h1-b?
Is there any other good solutions?

Need to improve on communication skills. Anyway, if the university asks for a H1 with a current date, that should not be a problem. Only when a H1 transfer occurs from academic to industry then it is considered to be a new visa. In your case you areeligible for H1 transfer- please opt for premium processing (1000$ extra)
