H1 beyond 6 years

My 6 years of H1 are expiring in May 2008. What do I need to do before May 2007?

Do I need to have a labor application in place or
Do I need to have an I-140 application in place before May 2007.

Please provide answer.

Only your Labor cert must be applied on or before May 2007.

Mean you must start your LC process 6 months earlier to May 2007. ( You must start advt etc by Dec 06 or Jan 07)

If he applies after May'2007 but his I-140 is approved before May2008 .Can he still get the 7th yr extension on H1b?

Perm LC or I 140 must be a year old to get 7th yr extn. Some of the category does not need LC so they can go directly i 140 (EB2 Extr ordinary cases).
