H1-B, Unemployment Insurance

Hi,

I am currently on H1-B which is valid until 2008. I had been asked to not report to work for sometime as there are no projects.

Can I file for an unemployment insurance and still maintain my H1-B? Will it affect my future GC process, if I file for GC with the same or different company?

I have been with the company for over a year now.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

If you document your unemployment you are "out of status" next day in H1.
