H1-B renewal

Hi,
I'm working for a company in the US for the last 4 years. My first H1-B visa expired in Dec 2003 aqnd i had a petition approved for a new H1-B which is valid from dec 2003 to dec 2006. I am travelling to India in Aug-Sep and I need to get my H1-B renewed at the Chennai consulate. Since I already had my H1-B visa approved, do I need to schedule an interview at the consulate for renewal, or can I use the drop-box? I tried to schedule an interview but the earliest date I got was 2 days before my departure. Please advice what I need to do now. My travel plans are set and it would be extremely difficult to change it.

------ was it NEW H1 or H1 extension with I-94 attached at lower part???

---Consulate dont RENEW Visa they stamp Visa

---- I think drop box is stoped in all US consulates in India as everyone has to be fingerprinted for Visa stamping
