Hello,

I am currently working for a private university in their technology department as a programmer. My H1 has started recently. Before that i was on my OPT. My question is that i heard university visas come under exempt from quota. Is that true for every department or is it applied only for teachers. I was thiking of changing jobs. So my question here will be really is that is my H1 valid for changing jobs or does the new company have to process a new h1 for me.
Thank you very much for your time and patience.
Regards,
Akella.

well once you get your H-1 regradless from where you get it from, then you are a free bird..you can transfer any time....
uinv employees do not come under H1 quota..so u r good for that....

Is the university H1 visa good for transfer for only within universities (or any educational institutes) or it is good for transfer to any software organisations? Thanks...

No, you can not transfer from Non-profit to Business entity

No. Once you get your H1 through non-quota (Non profit Org) you are not counted on Cap. If you try to transfer from Non Cap to commercial company you will come under cap. If you want to transfer, you can not transfer your H1 until april and you can work only from Oct 2005. Though it is a transfer it will come under cap.
