My H1-B visa (and I-94) expired on April 30th. An H1-B transfer/extension petition from January 2009 was denied in May, giving me 30 days to leave the country (assuming no appeal is filed by my employer). I have been in this country for over 8 years (initially as a student), and never out of status until now.
Is it possible for me to change status (to B2 for 30 days) or request an extension from USCIS by another week, so that I can dispose of my belongings (ex. car, furniture) and leave the country without getting tagged for future visa denials? I know USCIS is extremely slow with it's paperwork.
