H1-B denial, few days required to wrap up

My H1-B visa (and I-94) expired on April 30th. An H1-B transfer/extension petition from January 2009 was denied in May, giving me 30 days to leave the country (assuming no appeal is filed by my employer). I have been in this country for over 8 years (initially as a student), and never out of status until now.

Is it possible for me to change status (to B2 for 30 days) or request an extension from USCIS by another week, so that I can dispose of my belongings (ex. car, furniture) and leave the country without getting tagged for future visa denials? I know USCIS is extremely slow with it's paperwork.

Your I-94 has expired. You are illegally present. You are subject to deportation and detention. You may NOT do a COS since you are no longer in status. You are very likely to be denied future visas since you are accumulating illegal presence since 4/30. The only thing that may give you any hope is that you have not yet accumulated enough illegal presence to have a formal ban from the US.

You can always give a friend or relative a power of attorney to sell your belongings and wind up your financial affairs.

i'm on my 8th year, however my 7th ext application was denied on jan 6,2009, this was applied the same date my1b expired on june 1,2008. since i was denied, when did my unlawful presence started was it after my h1b expired june 1,2008 or was it after the denial of my extension on january 6,2009. my lawyer filed an appeal, do i still need to leave U.S.?

Did you work after H1 expiry June 1st, 2008? Then you worked illegally since then...if you did not..then your out of status starts from the date on denial
