I am on an H1B that was approved in May.

I am a Canadian working in the US.

I am in a position now where my personal life requires that I start looking for a new job and move to another city several hrs away. I have tried researching what is required for me to work for a new company - as I understand they have to file paperwork. I have several question 1) when I am offered a new job, at what point can I switch from Company A to Company B - during the paperwork or does some process have to be complete. IF anyone has gone though this and has advice, tips, suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I am very nervous about this.

Thanks.:)

--- New company will file your H1b transfer paper with BCIS and once you receive BCIS receipt after 10-15 days time from the date employer or layer sends it to BCIS. With that receipt you can start working with new employer

----- Just wait for the H1Transfer receipt from BCIS, no need to wait for H1transfer approval notice to start work as it takes 4-6 months to get H1b transfer approval notice. You are fine working with receipt notice. If you are moving to different city and address change then file AR11 form and update your new address with NCSC on I-800 #

Thanks for the information.. if anyone's gone though it and has tips and advice i'm all ears!

Does the tranfer make my H1B expiration date change? Thanks.

Thanks!

“Does the transfer make my H1B expiration date change”

Let me give you an example suppose your current H1B is valid is till August 2004 and new employer gets LCA for 2 years from DOL and then on form I-129 the lawyer/employer asks for 2 years from October 21, 2003 then it will have the extension granted on new H1B approval notice for 2 years. It all depends what date your lawyer asks on H1 transfer (it can not be more than 6 year from the date you first entered on H1b status in US)
