H1 B 7th Year Extension.. When to Apply ??

Can 7th year H1B extension ( based on pending I-485) be applied well in advance ?? I guess normally one can apply for an H1 extension 180 days before the expiry of current I-94. Does the same rules hold good for 7th year extension. My firend's attorney says he has to wait till 15 days before 6th year expiration to file for 7th year extension.. Any truth to this ..??

-- it is not true, he CAN apply 7th year H1 extension 6 months advance of I-94 expiry date with copy of I-485 filing reciept.
