H-1B Transfer from Company A to B, and then A to C

I worked with Company A uptil March 2004 end. Company B filed my H-1 B transfer in March end and got the transfer approved by April 15th 2004.

1) However in April, I was on the bench with Company B, and will not be getting paid and wouldn't have a paystub. Is this an issue with INS? Am I on legal status in the US, if I'm not on a company's payroll and not working with them, yet have a valid H-1B visa from them? How long can one be in such a state for?

2) Can I file for Company A to Company C, H-1 B visa transfer in April or early May, using Company A's paystubs from Feb and March (even though H-1B visa has been transferred already from A to B)?

3) How many valid H-1B visas can I have simultaneously? When A to B transfer hapenned, did H-1B visa from A still remain valid? When would the extra H-1B be revoked?

Thanks

1. You are in violation of the legal status.
2. yes you can
3.You can have multiple H1 transfers ,but if you apply for A to C now you might have to show April paystub also (There might be a RFE later on account of approved H1 transfer)
