Green time in US rules

Wondering if someone could help me understand (or point to) the rules that define the time green card recipient need to spend in US.

You need to reside in the US, and your time in the country should be consistent with this basic requirement.

If you think that there is a "rule" that says X days, and if you do X-1 you are automatically safe and X+1 you are not, then you are mistaken.
 
It's probably fair to say that anyone whose situation is such that they feel they need to ask a question like that is likely to be in the position where an IO could decide that they had broken the permanent residency requirements and start proceedings to rescind the green card.

As TheRealCanadian implied, just consider the literal definition of "permanent resident".
