Green Card

I know this may be discussed several time in this forum, but just for my clarity I am asking again.

I am a Canadian citizen and working on TN visa. My birth country is India. First am I ok to apply for green card in TN visa? Second what are the implications we can expect when we go for TN renewal after the I140 approval?

Please find the thread created by "curiousgeorge" on this topic, on this board. Nothing has adversely affected the ability of one to migrate from TN to GC without going through H1, regardless of country of birth, or backlog of visa availability. These matter were settled 10 years ago.

Just to piggy back on nelsona's comment, since your country of birth is India, the GC process for you will be a long one. You might want to wait and see what happens to NAFTA/immigration policies under the new president before moving fwd with this. My 2c

Actually, given the supposed uncertainty of TN, it would be better to move quicker than slower on this.

Thanks for your reply Nelsona. Eventhough I move quicker to start the process I need to wait for years for i485. As uncertainty of TN is it good to go to H1B?

How do you know H1 is more certain? In any event, H1 is a lottery, so why wait for lottery to get started. Its not your money.
