I am eligible to apply for US Citizenship but I lost my Green Card. Am I required to apply for replacement before applying for Citizenship? Please, advise.

You need to have evidence of your legal PR status and this is required regardless of your intentions to begin the naturalization steps. You shoud initiate the replacement process and as part of that will get the temporary I-551 stamp in your passport (that's sufficient even if that's all you have by the time of the naturalization interview).

While you're supposed to send a copy of your PR card with your N-400, not having the card should not stop you from submitting it anyway -- just attach a letter saying you are in the process of getting a replacement card for the lost one.

Green Card lost

Thank you. I forgot to mention that I have a copy of my Green Card. Would this be enough or I still have to apply for replacement before applying for Citizenship? Would the original be required at the time of the interview?

The original will be required before the oath. You are supposed to turn it in.

I lost my green card also, the interviewing officer did not tell my to get a replacement, just sign an affidavit that I'd lost it and that if I find it I must return it to the INS.
Waiting my oath letter now ........

Need Advise: Unable to find GC; Interview in 18 days.

I have been searching for my and my wife's GC for the past two nights and am unable to find them. They are not in the usual spot though I am still looking. The last time we used them was during our fingerprinting, which was on 10/15/2005.

Our interview is scheduled for Monday, January 23. Clearly there is not enough time for us to get a replacement card.

Would do folks here suggest? Do we cancel our interviews or show up without a green card?

We were also planning a trip to Europe and Asia in March-April which will now have to wait.

DO NOT CANCEL THE INTERVIEW. Just explain to the IO that you lost them am he/she will advice you what to do next step.

Talked to an immigration officer after getting transfered from the main info line. The wait was 30 minutes.

I was told NOT to worry about it. Take a photocopy and they can look up everything else. :)
