Green card holder trying to sponsor wife

Hello All
I am a green card holder. I recieved my green card last year around June/July and got married in Dec'05. I would like to sponsor my wife, who is/was on a valid H1 visa now/before marraige, for her green card and would like to get some opinion from people who might have tread that path earlier. How easy or difficult is the process. What are the forms that need to be filled and submitted. I am undecided about an attorney at present and even if i decided to go with an attorney, i would like to know some facts before approaching one. Please share info/experiences

You can file form I-130 for your spouse NOW, but she will have to wait about 5 years for her GC. But you can apply for citizenship in about 4 years (when you become eligible) which can shorten the amount of time she waits.
Hopefully she still has a lot to go with her H1.
I would do some more research about either process before consulting an attorney.

Did she apply for her own GC through employment ?
She will need a few years to wait for visa number, and if she did not have her own EB application, she won't be able to extend her H1 after 6 years and will lose the ground of legal stay. Even though you sponsor for her, I recommend her to apply at least labor certificate.

Thanks All..
I think i will continue with her Employment based GC also. She still has about 4 more years on her H1. When can she get an EAD in any process. If we file the I-130 for her now, would she atleast be able to get an EAD sooner and wait for the GC or will she have to wait for the EAD too.?

If we follow the employer based GC what the approximate wait time to get a EAD for people living and working in the chicago region. Will there be a problem if we continue with both application simultaneously ( Employer based GC and me sponsoring her)..

Thanks in advance

She cannot get an EAD until she has a filed I-485. The I-485 cannot be filed until the priority date for her FB or EB petition is current. For the FB2A spouse of a GC holder petition, approximately 2012. The EB petition will probably be much sooner.

There is no problem pursuing FB and EB immigration at the same time.
