Green Card application

Hello!

I am getting married to a US citizen and will be applying for family based green card. I am planning to prepare the application myself and wanted to check here if most people use lawyers or submit themselves. Is one method recommended than the other?

I am currently on H1-B visa. We (my wife and I) will submit:
I-130 Petition for Alien Relative (w/ supporting documents)
I-485 Application to Register Permanent Resident or Adjust Status
I-765 Application for Employment Authorization
I-696 Medical Examination
I-131 Application for Advance Parole

Do we need to submit I-864 (affidavit of support)?

I have been reading the information on websites and on this forum so I am beginning to get a good idea but don't know if I am missing some part.

I appreciate your advice.

AA

Hi axa901! Welcome!

My husband is the USC and we used an immigration consultant to complete our paperwork. I believe, however, if you do enough research on this website (check out all the stickie threads in this forum), you should be able to do it alone.

We filed all the forms you just mentioned (I think you meant I-693?) as well as the I-864 with my husbands tax returns.

I believe, though, that if the information is correctly completed and nicely organized it makes the process for the immigration worker easier and possibly your process faster.

Thanks for your replies. The website link was also a great resource.

And Yes, I did mean I-693 for the medical examination.

Thanks again.

Vaccination records, hmmm.

I am from India and I got a whole slew of vaccination done when I was little but I don't have any records of that. Anybody from India here who faced similar situation.

I am also concerned about the test for TB. I am vaccinated against it so if they will do a PPD or skin test, it will most likely come out as positive. I should probably ask this on a medical forum, but anybody here had been in a similar situation?

Thanks.

Many people have been in your situation. If you are unable to produce a record of your immunizations, you will have to get them done again.

As per your TB test. They will do a skin test, if you fail it, you will need a chest x-ray showing you clear.

Unless you do intend to change jobs and do not have a valid H-1B visa, you really do not need an I-765 and an I-131.

Hello!
I-765 Application for Employment Authorization
I-131 Application for Advance Parole
