Got the I-130 Receipt: Is it even worth sending the K3 now?

I sent mine on early September and today got the receipt notice for I-130, so we are in the matrix :). Given the delays and all, is it even worth sending the K3 Visa application? I also remember that the immigration chooses one if we file for both (I am not 100% sure how that works)
I know it costs a bit extra to change status with K-3, but that is not an issue, getting here faster is.

any thoughts on what should I do?

Thanks

My understanding is that the K-3 takes around 9 months, and consular GC processing takes 9-12. If speed is paramount, you can do the K-3 route, but you don't save an awful lot.

Thanks. Any drawbacks to sending both? Can I pick which one I choose to follow up on?

Sure. But as PraetorianXI points out, you need to balance additional expense and a delay in obtaining permanent residence versus 90 days (or so) less time before your spouse is in the US. It's a classic time vs. money thing; only you can determine how much the time is worth.

Wow, you received the receipt notice now....it took 4 months for them to process the first part? They keep saying I-130 takes about 6 months, but it took 4 months for you to get the NOA? Did you send in only I-130 and G325a?

Yes, I just got the notice so it's obvious that the 6 months is a joke.
I only sent I-130 with the bio. The support etc will need to be sent to the embassy--in 2011 or whenever it goes there :)

Re: the K3. I wish it was just the $1800, but I am not even sure that it would be faster, or what other papers would I need to redo.

Processing times seem to depend heavily on location. For example, last February, I sent an I-130 for my Mom, and received approval in a little over 3 weeks! The subsequent CP through NVC & London took approximately 7 months.

With the current delays even getting into the system, I expect you are looking at processing times in the 10-12 month range, due primarily to the the Service Centers. The CP portion through NVC seems to move along at a steady rate regardless, so if you can avoid sending anything extra to the SC, you will minimize your overall waiting time.

I am back: Both my K-3 and I-130 got approved a few weeks ago. I paid the $70 bill for the affidavit support and I am waiting for them. However, the embassy sent the info for the K-3 and i have all the papers ready. What should I do? My wedding (real one) will be in the first week of September. What happens if I sent the K-3 and I-130 is ready? Can I still swap them if she gets a K-3 Visa? Can I continue them both?

Any suggestions. I have no clue on how to procede. Getting a green card would be preferable but depends on the delay.
