Got Oath letter and how to travel on two passports

Its because of the British!!!!,, Indians fought so hard to get rid of them that becoming Indian was a matter of pride and priceless. The consitituion says it to that effect. However, these days of globalization, especially for Indians that rule is becoming obsolete to my opinion. NRI's are much more patriotic to their country of origin than the citizen's themselves.. Nevertheless, India should have the provision to reclaim back Indian nationality like Pakistan, Bangladesh or even U.K. to that matter!!

You blaming me. ;)

I don't know about the other two, but there is no need to reclaim UK citizenship. The UK stance is the same as that of the US - once you are a citizen you remain one until deliberately renouncing it to a British government official.

Elections are coming up in India this month. The time is right to ask the different political parties if they will change the ruling on dual citizenship :)

You know, I never really understood why India doesn't allow it, especially since the NRI's are generally well to do professionals. Can anyone explain...

A little correction needed. Pakistanis never lose their citizenship, in the eyes of the Pakistani government, when they naturalise, hence no need to reclaim it.

SO the moment i take Oath goodbye indian nationalty. Thats kinda cruel on immigrants. Anyway i am keeping USA passport as i waited for that long enough

Thats no biggie. yes, you lose the Indian citizenship and the passport. But once you get your OCI card, it is back to normal. After OCI, the only thing you don't have is voting rights and opportunity to run for election. Who cares? Even now being Indian, your vote is casted by some local rigging crooks when you are away from home:) Your heart and soul is still Indian though you carry a US passport. You will still be asked for "where are you originally from?". Get it?

If in the future, if you want to be Indian again..just go live there for 5 years..and you get your Indian Passport and voting rights back but lose your US passport.
