Hello,
I have obtained my green card through asylum. Has anyone traveled with their national passport and a green card obtained through Asylum? (category AS6) Getting a RTD takes forever and it's a rip-off. Of course I don't intend to go back to my country of origin. Let me know of experiences..
As a side note this is my experience traveling using the RTD:
-Getting a visa for Canada is no hassle as long as you can show that you can support yourself and are employed in the U.S
-Getting a Visa for European Schengen states is IMPOSSIBLE unless you have your green card.

No visa for Germany is relative

If you travel with RTD you don't need visa for Germany.
If you travel with national passport and Green Card, if your home country needs visa for Germany then you still need visa regardless of your Green Card.

my friend who got GC through derivative asylum traveled with me several times.did'n have any problen using NP with GC stamp.even i know some ppl went to home country with these documents.when they come back i will share their experiences as well.!

Last summer got visa to Italy for 2 monthes. Had no problem here in airoport. However, in Itlaly i had to explain almost everywere in airports ( i travel to Milano and Rom) about my status and What is RTD. They never saw this kind of document before. Was very suspisios. In Milano i spend almost 40 minute, because oficer bring 6 other oficers to explain them what kind of document RTD was and how to handle it.

I guess you are right My wife and my daughter went to home country in july 2004 ,No problems anywhere. My wife was derisative asylee and had passport stamped and she did not had physical GC with her ,my daughter is USC

Thanks for your responses. FYI I have no desire of going back to my home country. I respect the fact that I am an Asylee, but I disagree with the way CIS treats us when it comes to travel documentation. Other countries are ignorant about RTD's and therefore using a national passport could save us hassle aborad. Some people here argue that using both is illegal, blah, blah blah but what's so legal about the way we get treated?? $165.00 for a document that takes 5 months to arrive and expires in 1 year and can only be used for 6 months? We are getting RIPPED OFF, so I don't blame people that find ways to cirmcumvent the system.
