Hi,

Please I need your input and point me in the right direction. I just got laid off last week, while on a TN Visa(my visa expires in 2026), I am a Canadian Citizen. I am currently looking for a job and have two interviews coming up.

My question is do I need to inform the immigration about my new employment if i get one soon, since my TN Visa was issued by the company that laid ne off? what steps should I take? Thanks

Yes. Your TN was only good for your old sponsor and old job, regardless that it is not expired. You need a completely new one at this point to work anywhere else.

You have 60 days from lay off grace period before you either need to find a new TN sponsor, or leave the US.

Thanks for the reply. Would itr be beneficial for mama800 to explore change of status during this transition (B1/B2)?

Does mama800 apply for change of status without leaving the country? Thanks.

As the end of the 60-day period (or the expiry of the I-94) approaches, one can file a I-539 for B2 (not B1) status, without leaving the country for perhaps six months, for the purpose of finalizing US affairs and leaving, The applicant should be (if they haven't already be making final preparations to leave US, and not be waiting for the result of the B2 petition. That was the purpose of the 60-day grace period.
